Video Proof is required for world records.

Update as of 15.09.2014:
Live video proof is required for world records.

See rules page from FZC for further details: http://www.fzerocentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=13683

No restrictions.

Just make sure to follow the general rules for Time Attack (listed above).

  1. Times must be set in 0% (Max Acceleration) settings ONLY.

  2. Checkpoint skipping is not allowed. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSSLpvJ8mv8

  3. Side Attacks are allowed to be used, but HSSA (Hyper Speed Side Attack) is not allowed.

  4. Snaking patterns in the air are only allowed to be performed ONCE when using a machine that weigh 2000 kg or less. This rule has been done to prevent unintentional flying (PTAD).
(This rule is sort-of outdated and redundant)

  1. Times must be set in 100% (Max Speed) settings ONLY.

  2. Checkpoint skipping is not allowed. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSSLpvJ8mv8

  3. Side Attacks are allowed to be used, but HSSA (Hyper Speed Side Attack) is not allowed.

  4. Pseudo-Snaking with light machines is allowed.

*Sub Category*

  2. Checkpoint skipping is not allowed. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSSLpvJ8mv8

  3. Side Attacks are not allowed.

  4. Custom machines with a body rating of E or D are not allowed.

- Light Custom Machine Controversy -

The use of light machines (machines with a body rating of E or D) in the 100% Max Speed category has caused controversy over the years. Japanese player by the name Muumu notified the issue on his site back in 2004, but the issue was not widely known outside of Japan until much later.

In early 2013 I did some testing and found out the same as Mr. Muumu did. Machines that are light enough, such as machines with a body rating of E or D (possibly even a few C graded) can (and will) benefit from Snaking, even at 100% Max Speed settings.

While the time gain from Quick Turn alternations (Snaking) with light machines are minor, it's still there and would develop into snake-like movement if optimized. Heavy machines such as Gallant Star-G4 and Fat Shark does gain time from utilizing a Quick Turn in one direction during boost state. However, the difference here is that those machines doesn't gain time from Quick Turn alternations (Snaking).

Main problem at this point in time is that FZC has allowed the use of light custom machines for many years, and records which followed the rules at the time wouldn't have a suitable solution for a further restriction.

This made me change my personal preference for Max Speed Time Attack, because the main reason a Max Speed category was implemented in the first place was to have a play-style which specifically restricts Snaking. Allowing light machines sort of defeats this purpose. This is why I stopped using light custom machines for the 100% Max Speed category from early 2013.

Since then, several other players have also restricted themselves from using light machines, purely out of personal opinion.

I have commented before that I don't care about light machine records for the 100% Max Speed category several times, but keep in mind that doesn't mean I consider people who does use light machines as cheaters, or the records as illegitimate.
